Did you know that 95% of people that visit your website for the first time won’t take any action with your business (buy product or service, contact you, etc)… and most of these visitors will end up never visiting your website again.
Unless of course you have a system in place to prevent that from happening.
Instead of attempting to sell them your product or service right off the bat your goal should be to collect their email address so you can begin creating a relationship and building trust with them.
To do this you must offer something as bait also known as a lead magnet in exchange for their email address.
In this article we will be discussing lead magnet ideas that are ideal for the following types of businesses:
- Service businesses such as home improvement contractors, mechanics, attorneys, doctors, dentists, therapists, hair salons and others who make money in exchange for their expertise.
- Coaches, Gurus and Trainers
- Consultants such as copywriters, photographers, digital marketers, web developers and graphic designers
- Realtors
Below are 9 Lead Magnet ideas that are easy to create but highly effective at not only getting email opt-ins but also provide content that instantly creates trust with your prospect and puts you in a position to effectively offer them your high-ticket product or services:
- Guide / Workbook
- Email / Video Series
- Webinar
- Report
- Cheat Sheet
- Case Study
- Audit / Analysis
- Consultation
- Coupon / Discount
Pro Tip: An extremely effective way to turn cold traffic into a paying client is to layer lead magnets (setup a funnel). For example you may utilize a free guide to initially attract your prospect, then ask them to attend a webinar or schedule a free consultation that then leads into your high-ticket offer.
1. Guide / Workbook
A guide is basically a how-to piece of content that solves a problem. They are typically a pdf or slide deck that offer instructions on how to do something. Your guide should be highly focused and provide straightforward step by step advice.
You usually want your guide to provide a “quick win” for your prospect allowing them to accomplish whatever it is the guide is about with relative ease. This demonstrates to them that you are an authority in this field and build trust in their eyes that you are someone that can help them in your field of expertise.
The way you design your guide is also extremely important to it’s success. You want it be professional as this adds another layer of trust in your business.
How to Create: A guide is very simple to create. You just need a software such as Word, PowerPoint, Pages or Keynote to create the document.
If you do not have much of an eye for design it is highly recommended that you hire someone to design the guide including a catchy cover graphic after you are finished creating the content. You can find someone to design the guide for less than $30 on Fiverr or Upwork .
2. Email / Video Series
An email / video series has very similar content as that of a guide, but is presented to your prospects in a different way. Rather than giving them the solution to their problem right off the bat with a guide you break it up into pieces and email them daily parts of information over a certain period of time usually 5 or 7 days.
This can be a very effective approach for a number of reasons.
First off if whatever the problem is you are helping them resolve includes many steps it may be overwhelming to your prospect to try and digest this all at once, but if they got 1 simple actionable task given to the each day it doesn’t seem so bad.
More importantly this makes your prospect engage with you every day for a certain period of time and the more engaged you can get your prospect with you and the more time they spend with you, the more likely it is they will want to work with you.
How to Create: To create an email series you must first open an account with a email automation service provider. We recommend using clickfunnels for this as you can use their platform to create your video series, create webinars and so much more.
Once you’ve opened an email automation account you need to setup your email sequences. Here’s a step by step tutorial on how to do this on clickfunnels.
If your going with a video series as well as setting up the email sequences you’ll also need to setup the web pages where the videos can be viewed. You’ll want to make sure videos they haven’t yet reached in the series are not accessible. Clickfunnels makes this very easy to do by creating a membership funnel. You will also need to create the videos. To do I recommend use PowerPoint or Keynote to create the a presentation and record your screen using a tool like Monosnap and preferably use a microphone to capture your audio. You can pick up a lavalier mic for less than $20 on amazon.
3. Webinar
Webinars are one of the most effective types of lead magnets. Webinars are videos that cover a specific topic that can be either be live or automated. Live webinars can be very effective as you can engage more with the viewers by asking questions and have them respond in a chat box, but I recommend going with automated webinars because the whole point of what we try to do is to save you time when it comes to generating new clients for your business.
The content can be very similar to the content you would create for a guide or email series as your goal is to help them solve their problem by teaching them.
Webinars are highly effective because they are highly engaging and demand a time investment from your prospect so you know if a prospect watched the webinar in it’s entirety they are a very warm prospect.
How to Create: To create a webinar you must first open an account with a platform that allows you to host webinars. We recommend using clickfunnels for this as you they make it extremely easy to setup the landing pages and emails as well as automate the webinar.
If you want to do live webinars you will need more than just clickfunnels. I recommend Webinar Jam for this as you can also integrate this with clickfunnels which can handle the landing pages and email series you will want to send out.
Here’s a step by step tutorial on how to setup an automated webinar on clickfunnels.
To create the video if you are going the automated route I recommend using PowerPoint or Keynote to create the a presentation and record your screen using a tool like Monosnap and preferably use a microphone to capture your audio. You can pick up a lavalier mic for less than $20 on amazon.
4. Report
A report is a statistic/data-driven piece of content. They are typically a pdf or slide deck that offers up-to-date and in-depth information about a specific topic.
Your prospects may be looking for statistics about their area of business for a pitch they are about to make or to share with their clients.
A report demonstrates to your prospects that you are an expert in whatever the report is about and begins a relationship with them.
How to Create: A report is very simple to create. You just need a software such as Word, PowerPoint, Pages or Keynote to create the document.
Then you just need to research and collect powerful data about your topic. Statista is a great place to find data as well as just doing some searching around on google.
If you do not have much of an eye for design it is highly recommended that you hire someone to design the guide including a catchy cover graphic after you are finished creating the content. You can find someone to design the guide for less than $30 on Fiverr or Upwork .
6. Case Study
A case study is piece of content that features the amazing results you have delivered for one or more of your clients. They are typically a pdf or slide deck that offers up-to-date and in-depth information about a specific topic.
A case study is typically not the best lead magnet to use for cold prospects, but can be highly effective when used for warmer prospects. With that said some great places to offer this type of lead magnet is on your blog and even on your website’s navigation – have a case study link but instead of linking to a webpage ask them to enter their email and in return you will email them the case study.
They can also be a powerful piece of content to include in an email series a prospect has already begun when they opted-in for lets say a free guide you were giving away as they will just further create trust with your prospect.
7. Quiz
A quiz is a fun and interactive way to engage your prospect and collect a bunch of valuable information from them and help them learn more about themselves – moreso why they need you to help them solve a problem they may have just learned or confirmed that they have based on the result of the quiz.
You will provide the results of the quiz via email, which is great because this almost guarantees they will open the email you send them with the results.
How to Create: There are some great tools that make it really easy to create quizzes. I recommend using lead quizzes to create a quiz.
8. Consultation
A consultation is by far the easiest to get started with as there is no content that needs to be created.
However, I highly recommend setting up a funnel where you first offer one of the other lead magnets listed in this article first then after your prospect has digested this content offer a free consultation. With cold traffic your prospects will be very skeptical to sign up for a free consultation with you right off the bat because they know nothing about you and know at during the consultation you will be selling your service or product to them. This is why I highly recommend warming them up first with another lead magnet first before offering this.
Another reason to do this is because if you are lucky and you do happen to get a number of consultations scheduled you will be overwhelmed with the amount of time you have to spend talking to prospects that you haven’t qualified yourself. We are all about working with your dream client and utilizing one of the previous lead magnets will do a great job weeding out prospects that aren’t the right fit for you and your business.
How to Create: There is nothing that needs to be created other than setting up a way to capture your prospects contact information to offer this lead magnet but I recommend adding a couple extra steps that you make your prospect go through before a consultation occurs.
- I highly recommend including a quick application your prospect must fill out in order to schedule a consultation with you. This way you get some information from them beforehand and can decide if they are potential fit before you waste 30 – 45 min + with them.
- You should also setup an automated booking system where your prospect can see your availability and schedule the consultation. I highly recommend using calendly for this.
9. Coupon / Discount
This lead magnet is also very easy to setup and a great way to get prospects to begin a relationship with your business, but it is only recommended for certain types of business that have a value ladder that allows for it.
If your business only has 1 high-ticket offer then this lead magnet would not make sense for you, but if you one of your main business offering is a continuity offering then this may make a lot of sense for example if you are a personal trainer and you offer half-off your first workout session with the goal to sell them on an ongoing workout training program.
